Bronco Guide

Type: Printed and Published Magazine

Client: California Polytechnic University of Pomona

Reach: 29,138 people

The Bronco Guide magazine is an informative resource for students at Cal Poly Pomona. It is created by students, for students. With the help and collaboration of a team of 5 designers and copy editors, a new edition is updated and created every year. It includes a wide range of stories to enhance the college experience, information to help navigate the campus and its surrounding communities, on-campus resources, fun facts about the university, and tips/tricks of being a college student.

Illustrations

During my involvement with the Bronco Guide, I created various illustrations with different styles, themes, and purposes to convey a specific message.

Two Separate Editions

I was tasked to design both covers of the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 Bronco Guide. The illustrations are meant to embody an optimistic, vibrant, and stylistic approach to the Cal Poly Pomona campus buildings and surrounding environment. Both covers received an award for Best Magazine Cover Design from California College Media Association's (CCMA) annual Best of California Student Media Competition back to back.

Award-Winning Layout Design

This particular spread was entered in a competition with more than 100 different universities and placed 2nd for Best Inside Spread Magazine Design. In collaboration with the student copy editor and photographer, Diana Vazquez, we teamed up to create a spread dedicated to local hiking areas surrounding the Pomona area.

Spreads and Layout Design

With the help of copy editors, I designed and strategically arranged articles, stories, and informational content with visually appealing titles, illustrations, graphics, and photo manipulations. Each spread has a variety of purposes from informing students about on-campus resources to spreading the word about fun things to do on/off campus.

Copy Editors: Lauren Bruno, Isabella Cano, Blanca Gonzalez, Elizabeth Hernandez, Rachel Ly, and Julissa Sanchez.
